Description Bastien Nocera 2015-09-23 08:23:55 UTC
When copying/moving to something other than the local filesystem, we won't see the new file being added.

For example, I tried to cut and paste a file from my local Downloads folder to my SMB storage, and I thought nothing happened, maybe I forgot to cut the file properly.

This is probably because the file will only appear once the move has finished, in the meanwhile there's no feedback other than the little progress circle filling in in the toolbar.

Is this not something that has been always like this? In that case, you mean that now not opening a window makes it worse?
Comment 2 Bastien Nocera 2015-09-25 11:37:10 UTC
The dialogue popping up was feedback. Other OSes might show transparent, placeholder versions of the files you're moving of copying.
Comment 3 Carlos Soriano 2015-09-25 11:46:27 UTC
I agree. Either will have to improve the feedback with the circle, which we already tried to make it better but neither me or designers were happy about it. Or wait til 3.20 views rework to be able to do some cool things on the views, like a placeholder.

In the short-term, maybe popping out the progress popover would be helpful (replacing the progress dialogue).

That's something I very much want to do.

Another possibility for removable devices would be to replace the eject icon with a progress spinner.

I agree that there is not enough feedback during copy/move operations. Is there any news about what will be made to improve this ? Thanks.
Comment 7 jeremy9856 2016-01-02 16:01:30 UTC
So no news about this ?

Thank you Allan !
Since this bug isn't closed, may I ask you why ? Do you plan some other improvement ?

Thanks Allan, I couldn't find the bug report yesterday.
