The sidebar offers the unmount icon for remote locations, while "other locations" offers the disconnect icon. See the attached screenshot.

I think this was at least somewhat intentional. Allan didn't like the 'eject' metaphor for network locations.

I think the discussion you are remembering was about whether to show eject buttons for mounted remote filesystems. I argued that we shouldn't show a button, because ejecting a remote filesystem isn't something that people really need to do.

If we are going to show a button to unmount remote filesystems, it should use the eject button, both in order to be consistent, and to offer a familiar icon for users. I doubt that many people will know what two arrows and a cross means in this context.
