GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 751525
Unknown character boxes cluttering interface
Last modified: 2015-06-26 08:07:10 UTC
Created attachment 306138 [details] Collage of the box character bug What GIMP uses for a space (but not the normal spacebar space) produces these odd square characters with what looks like numbers inside them, as it could no longer interpret what this character looks like. I see it mostly in the status bar zoom menu, but it appears in other places too. I remember it starting to happen after my scanner/printer stopped responding to scan commands and I ended up uninstalling the drivers that came with Windows and installing the package from the Brother website. It looked fine before, but it might have also been caused by one of many numerous updates for Windows that are routinely installed. None of my other programs seem affected by this. I tried checking for broken fonts and changing the font my system uses, but none of that worked. I can copy and paste the text from the zoom menu, but it appears normal in my word processor and even GIMP's text tool, but not in the layer toolbox (see attachment). Applying kerning in the text tool also adds the character in between each letter. I don't know if there's anything I can do on my end or if it's just a weird, rare bug that's present within GIMP.
