GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 750629
Cannot open a document in an existing window
Last modified: 2015-06-12 13:52:17 UTC
Gedit no longer opens documents in a new tab. When running "gedit a.txt; gedit b.txt", the result is two windows, one with a.txt, one with b.txt. In Gnome 3.14 you would get one gedit, with two tabs. gedit 3.16 has a --new-window command-line option; but no --new-tab command-line option. If you run "gedit a.txt b.txt", one window with multiple tabs is opened. If there is a maximized gedit window, then "gedit newfile.txt" opens in a new tab. This is only for not-maximized gedit windows.
It's maybe a duplicate of bug #733577 or bug #730414.
