Description Wolf Vollprecht 2015-06-01 13:42:33 UTC
For some reason, Pi is not defined anymore.

It is still written in the docs that it should be.

I have tried Pi, pi and PI, none work.

The greek letter selected by button press works. But i'd like to enter it via keyboard.

Hi,

I don't know if it's the same for you or not but in debian stable gnome-calculator version 3.14.1, writing pi, Pi PI or even pI doesn't works either but there is a shortcut to write the pi symbol and that shortcut is Ctrl + P.

Adding the pi or Pi or PI would be nice as well but with this shortcut it's already OK. The problem is just to know that shortcut and many people wouldn't, that's why adding it would be nice.

In what version π used to be defined as Pi (ignoring the case)? If you look at the docs (Equations -> Trigonometry), you'll see this:

> To enter π with the keyboard use Ctrl+P.

And in the "Equations -> Variables" section, it's said that the π variable is always defined.

@Wolf Vollprecht: as @Bahodir Mansurov mentioned, pi is defined, and can be typed with the keyboard. However, the Ctrl+P shortcut is not documented where the variable is defined, so that would need fixing, by adding the shortcut there too.

I would also consider adding a keyboard shortcuts window to calculator, as lots of shortcuts are documented in the docs, but are not really discoverable, unless you read the docs. But the shortcuts window is another issue, created bug 772735.

We now have a keyboard shortcuts window available from the application menu (since unstable version 3.23.1), which documents pi, so I am closing this.

This problem has been fixed in the unstable development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain that newer version.
