GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 74927
Manual Layout and "grid layout" should use the same arrange by commands.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Manual Layout and "grid layout" should use the same arrange by commands. It makes no sense to have to sets of commands that duplicate functionality. ( eg. clean up by name, layout by name).

Some clarification: what i mean by grid layout is the equivalent of automatic layout in windows explorer. Which is sort of like our current arrange by feature except that all icons are kept in a nice grid, but the order can be changed. ultimately i would like to see nautilus have to types of layout, manual and grid (automatic) which use the same arrange by options. Arrange would simply change the ordering of the icons but not be a hard sort order the way nautilus currently implements the arrange by. This is similar to windows. Also just as a caveat, once we established snap to grid in nautilus, the clean up option should implement the grid snap since "clean up" is the same term used in mac os for snap to grid

ping dave... this is basically alluded to in the ui review...
Closing this bug as fixed, I believe these features have been implemented in the most usable manner with out providing too many options.
