GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 748678
Intermittent Hangs
Last modified: 2021-06-10 15:03:32 UTC
I have a very strange problem. I'm running GNOME Terminal 3.14.2 with vte 0.38.3 on Ubuntu Vivid. Intermittently, the terminal hangs after I press Enter or Ctrl-C (maybe anything which draws a new line). For example, something as simple as typing ls<ENTER> will hang. It hangs indefinitely until I provide any kind of input event at all. Pressing enter again, or hitting the space bar, or even moving the mouse in the window ends the hang. ROXTerm (both the gtk2 and gtk3 versions) suffers from the same problem. Likewise with Terminator and vte 0.36.3.
Looks the same as bug 730763; could you please confirm it? In particular, if a terminal tab misbehaves, does drag-n-dropping it to another gnome-terminal window repair it?
It sounds like the same bug. From my testing yesterday, it seems that drag-n-dropping it into a new terminal does fix it. But it's intermittent enough that I can't say I'm 100% positive yet. I'll keep testing.
So whatever is happening, it's not specific to vte. I've confirmed that gedit is doing the same thing.
