GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 747948
Cannot open legacy tray on touchscreen
Last modified: 2017-08-12 22:08:06 UTC
After update to gnome-shell 3.16, i cannot open message tray with touchscreen. If i try to swipe it to the left, it simply does not respond. If i try to activate hot corner (swipe the finger to bottom left corner, like with mouse) i can see the arrow, but it does not respond to touch. After some manipulations, system freezes and does not respond. After freeze, every second it writes to log this: апр 15 21:46:35 awildnote /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[24132]: Activating service name='org.gnome.Caribou.Daemon' апр 15 21:46:35 awildnote /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[24132]: Successfully activated service 'org.gnome.Caribou.Daemon' Here is a video with manipulations, about which I spoke: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B91nGadys-qaTkdoR1MzbTAwTDA/view?usp=sharing
With 3.18, I don't see the freezing up, but the complete lack of a way to open the legacy message tray using touchscreen alone very much persists.
This regression with the notification design seems set to continue into 3.20 (just tested 3.19.4 now), sadly.
Closing this ticket as WONTFIX as the legacy tray (introduced three years ago in 3.16) was meant as a temporary solution to encourage maintainers to move away from the concept of status icons and will not be included anymore in 3.26. Users can install one of the existing extensions, either based on the still available XEmbed support or implementing the DBus-based StatusNotifier spec.
