Full-screen programs no longer set the background correctly (see screenshot), leaving black areas until manual redraw (Ctrl-L).

This broke somewhere between 0.40.0-2-g3291b87 and 0.40.0-7-g450bf25.

Looks nontrivial to fix (at least nontrivial at 1pm :D). Reverted for now, let's continue the investigation in bug 506438.
