Description kendell clark 2015-03-29 11:29:41 UTC
there are unlabeled buttons in various gnome control center modules, listed below. That is, orca cannot read them, it simply presents them as 'toggle button' or 'push button'. In "search" the buttons to toggle on and off search locations, as well as the button to add a new one are unlabeled. In the 'network' page, the button between the add profile button and the 'options' button is unlabeled, presumably a toggle to turn on and off the specified interface. In 'sound, there is a button between the output device chooser and the properties for that device that is unlabeled, simply reads as 'toggle button'. In the 'sharing' panel, the button to toggle sharing on and off is unlabeled, simply reads as 'toggle button'. Other than that, most other labels are accessible or read when they fall back to using tooltips as labels

I can confirm this. the buttons in control center need to be labeled. thsi would help users use gnome control center easier.

I'd rather have bugs filed against specific buttons being unlabelled. This would allow us to treat the problems on a case-by-case basis. This report isn't too useful.

Ok sorry for that. Lets be a bit more specific. I'll start under hardware.
Clicking on bluetooth for example I can press tab with orca and it just says push button. If it would indicate bluetooth on, bluetooth off for example that would be a great info to the user. I can not comment further here since I do not have any bluetooth devices to currently test. I can add another comment at another tiem for that.
Going into displays I can tab and it says all settings and built-in-display. Pressing enter on built-in-display I hear the following
build-in-display size 20 aspect ratio 16 9 resolution
Then orca proceeds to say toggle button not pressed. If I tab around in this dialog They all say toggle button not pressed. I can cycle the button and it will say toggle button not pressed. That should be labeled as well. I'm not sure if these controls change on systems with different video cards.
The combo box is fine. It tells me the different resolutions my screen has, refresh rate when you change them etc.
I can comment on a few more as I'm running out of time.
Under hardware pressing enter on power I can tab and orca says
power frame
screen brightness, slider 70 (thats an example) I can tab again and I hear the same settting. this has no indication if its on AC power or Battery Power to change the adjustment accordingly. My computer is not operated on Battery power, but I can try to verify on my laptop at another time.
Tabbing again I hear dim screen when inactive toggle button pressed. Tahts fien the option is active. then I hear blank screen five minutes combo box. I can press space bar, choose the minutes and press space bar again to close it. Which is fine. Doesn't again indicate on ac power or battery power if it does indeed have such values.
Next is the following
turns off wireless devices toggle button pressed.
Well my wifi is currently active there fore I do not understand that. I'd thought that would be toggle button not pressed.
Wifi toggle button pressed is the next item.
tabbing twice in succession I hear bluetooth toggle button not pressed.
I hope this is a better comment of what is not labeld and what seems to be a bit unexplaiend with the information presented by orca. I'm a totally blind user. I depend on orca for everyday tasks and for my operating system needs.

Let me know how I can help further.

Filing separate bugs for each issue, at the very least one per panel, would be useful as mentioned in comment #2.

closing as notgnome. I'm going to file bugs against the individual control center modules themselves

Much appreciated.
