GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 746474
Combined usage of "new" brings adjective conjugation problem in Swedish
Last modified: 2016-10-09 10:24:31 UTC
Hi, the word "New" is used in two cases in gnome-clocks. Either when talking about an alarm or a world clock. #. Translators: "New" refers to an alarm #. Translators: "New" refers to a world clock #: ../src/alarm.vala:560 ../src/world.vala:262 msgid "New" msgstr "Nytt" This leads to problems in Swedish as we use different adjective conjugations depending on the noun. For "New" we would either translate it to "Ny" or "Nytt". Unfortunately "världsklocka" (world clock) and "alarm" are not in the same category, we say "Ny" about clock, and "Nytt" about alarm. For this reason it would make the Swedish translation look better if there could be two different strings for the two uses of "New". Regards, Anders Jonsson
Created attachment 317249 [details] [review] Add a context to New buttons This adds a context to the "New" button for World clocks and Alarms. Compiled and tested against gnome-3-18 branch.

This patch breaks the string freeze, I hope you could branch for gnome-3-22 before it.
Can you clarify how it breaks string freeze? The "New" string was already there... just curious. Anyway, yes, I guess I can branch before that.
In gettext, adding context makes it a new string, requiring re-translation. If you don't want to branch yet, you can always revert it and commit again after branching in the future.
Thanks for the clarification. It is ok, I branched
