Description Matthias Clasen 2015-03-06 19:18:46 UTC
Status icons are a deprecated API in GTK+.
gnome-shell in 3.16 has segregated them in a 'legacy' tray. We need that tray to keep third party applications working, but core parts of the desktop, like screen sharing, should really not use it.
Since we've already integrated screen sharing in the sharing panel in the control-center, it would be nice to have a similar integration for the status. It could be displayed in the system status area by gnome-shell itself. If it is even needed.
Comment 1 David King 2015-03-06 19:44:11 UTC
Some form of status indicator is needed, as there should be a way to show that a client is connected, and to interactively disconnect them. Some kind of shell integration would make the most sense, but currently the status icon is all that's available.

Vino is not under active development anymore and unmaintained.

Please use gnome-remote-desktop instead.
