Description Mikhail 2015-01-10 10:19:51 UTC
Description of problem:
Please remap "Redo" to "Ctrl+Y" sequence, because it much comfortable and usual. Many people can't use "Shift+Ctrl+Z" because sequence "Ctrl+Shift" often used for layouts switching.

Every gedit user is used to press Shift+Ctrl+Z. Moreover the keyboard shortcuts are unfortunately no longer visible in the UI, just in the documentation, so if an important keybinding is changed (such as Redo), then users will be grumpy…

You can anyway normally edit the keyboard shortcuts in the ~/.config/gedit/accels file (dunno if it still works after the port to GMenu/GAction).
Comment 2 Sébastien Wilmet 2015-01-15 15:50:48 UTC
Unless it's a GNOME-wide decision in the future, we won't change the keyboard shortcut for the Undo/Redo. So let's close the bug.

Why so categorically? Firstly how much do you know of programs with "Shift + Ctrl + Z" hotkey?
Firefox, Evolution, Libre Office, Geany, Sublime Editor, Netbeans, Eclipse etc uses "Ctrl + Y" sequence. This is the most familiar and comfortable.

Now try to configure language switching as I have in the screenshot. The combination "Shift + Ctrl + Z" does not work at all.
