GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 742579
IDN: puny code addresses are not converted to IDN domain
Last modified: 2021-05-19 12:27:33 UTC
Hello, https://wiki.debian.org/IDN with links and testdomains. recieving an email address in From:, To: or CC: with punycode should be convert to the IDN domains and shown as such to the user. For example: Return-Path: <noel@xn--kthe-5qa.de> ... From: =?utf-8?Q?No=C3=ABl_K=C3=B6the?= <noel@xn--kthe-5qa.de> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Mime-Version: 1.0 (1.0) Subject: =?utf-8?Q?Test_k=C3=B6the.de?= Message-Id: <449FEB3C-AAA3-43EF-9C15-E48A05A246F1@xn--kthe-5qa.de> Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2015 12:00:46 +0100 To: =?utf-8?Q?No=C3=ABl_K=C3=B6the?= <noel@xn--kthe-5qa.de> X-Mailer: iPhone Mail (12B440) X-Evolution-Source: 0 The To: and From: are show as <noel@xn--kthe-5qa.de> but should be shown as <noel@köthe.de> the IDN. Bug #742578 is about creating new emails with evolution and this is when you read these IDN emails. Sending to IDN domains works great because of Bug #486018. Thank you.
3.16.3 shows the described behaviour. As far as I understand this topic the MUA should use internally and on the wire the ACE/punycode but display the user always the IDN like köthe.de (in FROM: and TO:) when it sees a punycode.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
