GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 742106
Draft messages linger in conversation after sending reply
Last modified: 2015-01-07 20:30:46 UTC
I don't know if other people experienced this, but I noticed that Geary sometimes leaves unfinished "Drafts" messages in the Inbox thread, even after I finish composing mail and sent it. Also, I noticed that Geary constantly saves the text as I type (which itself is not a problem), but when I look at the "Trash" folder that are many (again) unfinished draft messages which probably should just be deleted after the completed email is sent.

This is a known issue, but I can't find the ticket for it, so I'll leave this ticket open. > Also, I noticed that Geary constantly saves the text as I type (which itself is > not a problem), but when I look at the "Trash" folder that are many (again) > unfinished draft messages which probably should just be deleted after the > completed email is sent. I suspect you're using Gmail. The issue here is that truly deleting a message in Gmail via IMAP is non-trivial; see bug #729136, bug #727686, and bug #721790. I'm changing the ticket's title to reflect the first issue you've reported.
> I suspect you're using Gmail Yes, this happened with my Gmail account. I mentioned this because usually the reason people look in the "Trash" folder is they think they might find some non-trash in it. If it's cluttered with lots of uncompleted messages they themselves wrote, the "Trash" folder is less useful. Is there a way to turn off constant saving of drafts? This issue is annoying enough that I now use gedit to compose message and copy and paste to Geary at the moment.

Yes, in the Accounts dialog there's a "Save drafts on server" option. See bug #726728 for more discussion of the saving drafts on Gmail problem.
