4) What happens instead is it shows gibberish as per the screenshot https://launchpadlibrarian.net/36337912/Screenshot-1.gif . First reported against Ubuntu 9.10 evince 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.1.

It was an issue in Poppler, which is already fixed:
