I'm sure that the background used to be a light grey colour (like in the mockups [1]). However, now it is white. This creates a bit too much contrast with the notes themselves.

I just created a notebook, and it doesn't have a background either. I suspect that it is the same issue. Screenshot attached.

on biji-notebook.c
photos uses photos-collection-icon, i can't find right now relevant commit or current code on documents.
