Description Kevin Ferguson 2014-09-04 18:06:22 UTC
Hello,

My university uses Junos/Juniper SecureAccess for one of its VPN networks.

At the moment, I can connect to this network utilizing the proprietary NetworkConnect client and the web interface - but setting this client up is a pain, and involves installing a number of 32 bit libraries, and some finicky setup.

It would be much nicer if NetworkManager had a plugin that could simply authenticate with this type of network through the DE.

I have tried using vpnc with no success. After having talked to department IT, the server does not have a groupname/group password, and should not require one - but vpnc will not create a new connection without both. Re-entering my user id and setting the group password to "not required" still results in a failed connection. Likewise, other variations of the group name and password also fail.

A similar report was filed a few years ago: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=684480

but has been inactive for some time. Rather than raising a years-old bug, I figure it may be more useful to file a new report.

I should have also added that a reply to the referenced bug report mentions that since vpnc itself cannot connect with SecureConnect VPN servers, it may require a new plugin. I can't verify whether this is actually true, however.

There is a project 'OpenConnect', initially created to support Cisco SSL VPN, now also supports Juniper SSL VPN: http://www.infradead.org/openconnect/juniper.html
The latest versions works fine here (Arch).

I think this will be eventually fixed with bug 746664.

Depending on that bug.

I think this is fixed. The Openconnect-plugin supports it by now.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance.
We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
