Description Antoine Saroufim 2014-08-15 10:38:19 UTC
GDM 3.12 is preventing KDE4, KF5, and Budgie sessions from starting. When the user attempts to log in to one of those sessions via GDM, the user would either be immediately logged out (Budgie) or would be stuck at the splash screen (KDE4, KF5). Here are some downstream bug reports about the issue:

One more bug report: https://github.com/evolve-os/budgie-desktop/issues/62
Comment 2 Jasper St. Pierre (not reading bugmail) 2014-08-15 14:23:23 UTC
The budgie report seems to be an unrelated issue.

For KDE: Can you turn on debugging? Go into /etc/gdm/custom.conf and add Enable=true under the debug section.

Then some logs should appear. If you have the systemd journal, they're in that, otherwise they'll be dumped to /var/log/gdm/. Can you attach those?

Hello.
journalctl log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44544435/journalctl2.log
/var/log/gdm log: /home/Vagrant/Dropbox/Public/:0.log

Dear God. The embarrassment. The var/log/gdm log is actually here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44544435/%3A0.log
Too much copy/pasting can ruin a person's concentration. Forgive me.

Hello,
I have the same problem on Archlinux, choosing KDE in GDM results in the splash screen stuck at the "Drive" icon (vanilla KDE).
Starting KDE with startx works fine.
Comment 6 Antoine Saroufim 2015-03-06 08:07:04 UTC
I can no longer confirm the issue. GDM 3.14 and GDM 3.15 are working fine with non-GNOME sessions.

alright thanks.
