After the latest update in Fedora 20 (evolution-3.10.4-1.fc20), bug 708004 has come back.

Thanks for a bug report. That is due to my changes for bug #645476. I'll try to figure out some way to deal with both cases properly, unless you'll be quicker.

I chose a different solution, instead of hunting around signals and callbacks and so on, I made the delete action to always select the next message after deletion, which seems to work pretty fine now:
