GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 722833
Gnome Shell 3.8 not able to switch to full screen when viewing videos on internet ( exceptions: youtube, vimeo)

Created attachment 267051 [details] Example This bug is old, in fact I had this problem even from using Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 with Gnome 3.6. The bug is not due to the original face of Gnome Shell in either versions, but due to use of gnome shell extensions "Window list" and "Frippery Bottom Panel". I used seccond in 13.04 but I am now using first in 13.10, and will probably still be using it long after, cause it's making my life easy and pleasant. Description: When trying to go full screen with a video, the image of the video dissapears in the page, but a new entry appears in taskbar with the title [plugin-container]. To switch to the video, you have to click the entry in which time the video is still running (you can hear it). I tested youtube because I use it daily and I tested vimeo just to see if it is present and it isn't for both of them. The bug is there on romanian news websites like: http://stirileprotv.ro/ http://realitatea.ro/ and on some major romanian youtube like websites: http://www.trilulilu.ro/ http://vplay.ro/ http://www.220.ro/ I use firefox for daily use. In firefox most sites (except http://vplay.ro/) will switch to full screen the first time you click on the specific button The second time and all the next times after you exit full screen you need to use the entry in the "Window List" bar. I use thunderbird for mail and rss, and viewing video's works likewise. I only use chromium when programming in brackets, but I did a few tests to see: in chromium, vimeo and youtube work as they should, but with the others only http://vplay.ro/ works for the first time and the rest work like vplay in firefox. This was never o problem for me in ubuntu (unity version), xubuntu, linux mint mate or cinnamon.
Created attachment 267053 [details] Example 2 In this example, the video image freezes in the browser, but the sound can still be heard, and, when click on [plugin container] you can switch to full screen. The settings of the extension in these examples are on "Never Group Windows". On any of the other settings, when grouping gets activated you can't switch to full screen because [plugin-container] does not appear in the bottom panel anymore.
gnome-panel is not gnome-shell.
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/602/window-list/ Window List by gcampax Display a window list at the bottom of the screen. This extension is part of Classic Mode and is officially supported by GNOME. Please do not report bugs using the form below, use GNOME Bugzilla instead. This is the extension and I reported the bug because it "is officially supported by GNOME" and "use GNOME Bugzilla instead".
(In reply to comment #3) > This is the extension and I reported the bug because it "is officially > supported by GNOME" and "use GNOME Bugzilla instead". Yeah, you did the right thing here - you just picked the wrong product (gnome-shell instead of gnome-panel). It might be a good idea to point that out on the web page, on the other hand it's not a big deal for us to reassign bugs to the correct product/component. But back to the actual problem - can you reproduce the issue without the extension? I suspect that you are really hitting bug 722743, which is not extension-related at all ...
yes, it's definitely bug 722743
