GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 722702
Evince search functionality is broken when using the F3 key
Last modified: 2014-05-09 16:58:51 UTC
Hi, I'm under Ubuntu version: DISTRIB_RELEASE=13.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=saucy Using Evince version: GNOME Document Viewer 3.10.0 This version of Evince has a problem with the search functionality with all the pdfs I've tested it with. When I do a search, it finds entries and shows them in a panel on the left of the document. However, when I press F3 to go to the next result entry, it has a very strange, wrong and incoherent behavior: - In the left panel, the selection correctly circles through the list of possible results, - In the document itself, the cursor gets stuck in the current page and circularly alternates, but only in the entries found in the current page! Contrarily to the left panel, it does not go to the following entries in the next pages. This behavior is strange and incoherent because left panel and document selections do not refer to the same search result entries. It is wrong because it does not allow to navigate between all the results in the document. The problem does not occur when using the "newt-entry" arrow-button in the top left part of the window. The problem only occurs with the F3 key. Here is one PDF that shows the problem (but the problem occurs with any pdf here): http://ercim-news.ercim.eu/images/stories/EN93/EN93-web.pdf I'm not sure if it's related, but FYI I'm using AwesomeWM (awesome v3.4.15) and I already noticed some strange behaviors between previous Evince versions and this WM. For instance, when I open a pdf, then move to another "tag"/Desktop, then come back, I can't move inside the pdf pages with the arrows, I need to clic inside the Evince window, then switch to another tag and come back for the arrows to work again. It's as if Evince would not have recovered the mouse focus. However, the other keys, even Home and End do not show this problem... So something might be wrong between Evince and Awesome with the management of keys and/or focus... FYI, I've submitted this bug to Ubuntu's bugs launchpad and they sent me here. Cheers GM
By the way, the bug was confirmed by Ubuntu Maintainers and the link is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1263088
Confirming on my machine. I think that we are using current page in some parts and the pages of ther esults in others, so that causes the inconsistency.
I think this may be a duplicate of bug 710778. I tried the associated commit 8d3ac1d8de83f3c6d9c51e9ad2c56e000d4bb4e7 with a couple of PDFs, including the one above, and it worked fine (whereas the commit immediately before that didn't).
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. Thanks Brian for bisecting it and giving an update. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 710778 ***
