GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 721833
OnlyShowIn line nautilus.desktop is unnecessary.
Last modified: 2014-02-17 20:18:35 UTC
Hello there. I recently began tinkering with elementary OS, which is an Ubuntu LTS based distribution which utilizes their own Pantheon desktop environment based on GTK3. I installed Nautilus but to my surprise, could not locate it in the applications menu. Some digging eventually revealed that the nautilus.desktop file had an OnlyShowIn=Gnome,Unity line, which prevented Nautilus from showing up. Granted, this was a quick fix to comment out this line and bring Nautilus to a usable state, but I sat there wondering why this made any degree of sense. This line does nothing but inhibit users of other desktop environments from utilizing it. It's really a nonsense feature and would save a deal of headache for other users who want to use Nautilus, but aren't on Gnome or Unity. I understand that Pantheon is a new desktop environment, and might not be widely accepted or considered "official" by some particular sources out there, but again, looking at this realistically, it serves no benefit while simultaneously providing a headache for non-Gnome/Unity users out there. Thank you for your time.
I agree that the OnlyShowIn line can just be removed. nautilus is just an application, nowadays

I pushed this to git master, thanks.
