---- Reported by geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-03-23 05:07:00 -0700 ----

Original Redmine bug id: 6647
Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6647
Searchable id: yorba-bug-6647
Original author: Andrea Corbellini
Original description:

Geary should support mail accounts without a mailbox which you can use just to
send mail (i.e. accounts with SMTP but without IMAP).

Traditional email clients require you to insert the SMTP and POP/IMAP settings
for your 'master' account (the one with the mailbox), and then add the other
forward-only accounts by copying the same SMTP settings over and over. This is
just annoying.

Geary could be smarter about this and let you specify a list of mail aliases
for your accounts.

Would #5964 cover this if it also allowed for a different SMTP address for
each email address?

Yes, it would.

Ok. We'll leave this one open to indicate support for this kind of setup,
since it sounds distinct enough than what #5964 is trying to accomplish.

Dear Geary developers,

any update on this one?

Please add this feature, it's very important IMHO.

And please make it so that one can use a different SMTP server as it is requested here.

I do not like how it is requested over there:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=714922

(without being able to use a different SMTP server).

Being able to use a different SMTP server is very important IMHO.

It would be much appreciated.

Regards

I would be happy with Bug 714922 also, but this would be even better.

I am running into an issue where an Office365 managed domain drops all emails sent to the same domain but with a non-Office365 SMTP. A simple solution may be to add the possibility to specify an SMTP when adding an alias in the “additional email addresses” window.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
