Description Charles Lindsay 2013-11-21 20:26:02 UTC

---- Reported by jim@yorba.org 2012-09-07 20:36:00 -0700 ----

Original Redmine bug id: 5782
Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5782
Searchable id: yorba-bug-5782
Original author: Jim Nelson
Original description:

Because of #4652, when the All Mail or Sent Mail folder is displayed, a
grayed-out delete icon is shown rather than a grayed-out archive button. We
should be displaying the latter, because delete is a valid operation in these
two folders.

The problem is that the engine doesn't currently have a notion of "this
operation would normally be available but just not in this folder", which is
necessary to complete this today.

However, Geary will probably offer both archive and delete operations at some
point (see #3772). In that case, this ticket would be moot, since a delete and
an archive button would be displayed, grayed out according to the selected
folder.

related to geary - 4652: archive command should not be available in All
Mail or Se... (Fixed)

For gmail accounts now, delete only shows up grayed out in all mail or sent
mail. The only place you can delete a message is from the trash. Note there's
no way to get a message into the trash besides drag 'n drop.

Maybe we need a third option for this button that's "Trash", that sends
messages that are already "archived" to the trash folder.

  * **Target version** set to _0.4.0_

I think the basic situation should be something like this:

  * Most folders display Archive and Delete. The Delete button may not be on the toolbar, since it's not a common operation. Also, I'm starting to think it should be Trash instead of Delete. So, Archive and Trash.
  * Certain folders (All Mail, Sent Mail) only display Trash.
  * The Trash folder has a Delete Forever button, as well as Restore and Empty Trash.

We should go through all the special folders and see if there are any other
exceptions here.
