Original description:

Hi!

It would be good to have the ability to add labels to the various accounts. So
you can make new file folders, and not to create them like this currently on
the server.

Create system to add tags.

I'm not sure I understand. What is being tagged or label? Are you asking for
local-only folders?

I mean both the ability to create folders locally, as also on the server.

Currently from Geary can not create folders and that's nothing practical.

Ok, just wanted to be sure that's what you're asking. I've renamed this ticket
to reflect that.

I think we need to get create/rename/remove remote folders implemented first
before we go this route. It would rather not have local-only folders at all,
but will leave this ticket open in case others feel a need for them.

Exactly that's the way that you indicate first and then the possibility of
creating a local outside server to store and being able to empty the server
and not saturate.

Saving important emails or just store and have more server space.

As with some other local-only folder tickets, I'm closing this as I don't believe we'll ever go this route with Geary. Geary is intended to be a more network-aware application than older mail clients.

Just my two cents :

I really think that local folder is a key feature if you want users to switch to Geary.
In fact most of professional users for example have thousands and thousands mail from backup or like me simply because our server is not managing a large quantity of mail as our policy didn't allow that.

So each year we backup all our sent mails into a local folder to be able to keep them as a reference and be able to search in.

Importing from Thunderbird is as well a key point here..
I really think it would need to be reconsidering this one...

I second this request.
I am in a situation where my mail server does not allow me to store all my emails. I therefore need to store the old ones locally in an archive. This is currently not possible in geary.

Hi all,
I write on that topic because I highly appreciate Geary as email app and I need, as other users wrote before, the need to store emails locally. I will highly appreciate to use Geary as my primary app for emails in my gnome also during work time. Thank you for your work!
