GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 711154
Wrong character encoding on the title
Last modified: 2013-10-30 20:17:03 UTC
Created attachment 258577 [details] ü is encoded wrong on the titlebar Characters in the title seems not to be shown in utf-8. For example an ü will be shown as ü. In the attachments is a screenshot to show this problem.
Firstly, there does seem to be something seriously wrong with your evince installation (the missing icons, weird window frame etc)… Secondly, please attach one document that when opened in evince shows this problem.
If you are running evince built with jhbuild, install gnome-theme-standard. And as Christian said, please attach a PDF test case.
Created attachment 258607 [details] pdf with ü > Firstly, there does seem to be something seriously wrong with your evince > installation (the missing icons, weird window frame etc)… Maybe there is a dependency missing on the Ubuntu package or something else is broken. I will create a ticket on the Launchpad tracker for this. In the attachments is the pdf which shows ü.
Thanks for attaching a test case. This might be an issue either with the PDF or with Poppler. When trying to uncompress the stream of the pdf I get: $ qpdf --stream-data=uncompress ü.pdf u-un.pdf WARNING: ü.pdf (object 13 0, file position 1409): empty object treated as null qpdf: operation succeeded with warnings; resulting file may have some problems I also suspect on the PDF because when you look at the properties of the file using Acroread, it gets the same issue.
I forwarded the bug report to Poppler. Although, I suspect the issue is the PDF itself. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71063
