Description Mike FABIAN 2013-10-28 11:15:08 UTC
Fedora-20-Beta-TC6-x86_64-netinst.iso
gnome-shell-3.10.1-1.fc20.x86_64

- Installation in Japanese
- Select the Japanese input method kkc in the panel
- The panel now shows the indicator “あ”
- type “a” in gnome-terminal, you get あ, i.e. Japanese input is now
  active.
- In gnome-terminal, type Alt+@ to switch kkc into direct input mode
The indicator in the panel now shows “_A”. Now you can type Latin.
- Type “ibus restart” and RETURN in the terminal.

Now the panel shows the indicator “あ”, but typing “a” does
not produce an “あ”, i.e. Japanese input is not active,
kkc is not running. This can also be confirmed by checking that
“ps aux | grep kkc” shows nothing.

- Switch to some other input source, for example a keyboard layout and
  back to kkc.

Now “ps aux | grep kkc” finds “/usr/libexec/ibus-engine-kkc --ibus”,
  i.e. kkc is running again.

Typing “a” gives あ i.e. Japanese input works again.

Expected behaviour:

After “ibus restart”, the input source shown in the indicator in the panel
should work again automatically without having to switch
manually to a different input source and back.
Comment 1 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:36:25 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
