GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 706169
Gnome freezes frequently after update to version 3.8.4
Last modified: 2013-08-18 15:54:54 UTC
Created attachment 251951 [details] Strange loss of transparency/gradient In general I don't know if the bug is exactly in the gnome-shell or in some other part of Gnome. The problem is that the desktop freezes accidentally and I can only move the cursor. The applications that I have started seems to work (e.g. skype plays the usual sound when someone comes online or VLC continues to play streaming audio). This happened after recent update to version 3.8.4 of Gnome and in all of the cases I need a "hard reset" by the power button. Other "symthoms" are occured when changing the desktop background or when a changing-throughout-the-day wallpaper are used (screenshot applied in the attachment). The details of my system are: Distro: Fedora 19 APU: Intel Pentium 2020M with integrated Intel HD 2000 which runs with the integrated in the kernel open source Intel IvyBridge Mobile drivers.
P.s. also when I plug an external device to the USB (e.g. phone , flash drive) it is played only the usual sound but the device does not appear anywhere.
Background issues are fixed by (incl. the freeze) https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/?h=gnome-3-8&id=0a1b9867fcf5065a72e782e05fea858883bf2cdc For the removeable devices file a separate bug please. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 704646 ***
Today I received the update and all the problems are gone! Thank you very much, you are great! :)
p.s. the problem with the USB devices is gone too!
