GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 704352
Filename not unselected when directory changed.
Last modified: 2017-09-18 17:30:40 UTC
In gedit open an existing file then go to 'Save As' to save a copy of this file. When the save dialog first opens the filename will be selected. Now change a directory and the filename stays highlighted but no longer has focus. This gives you the false impression that you can start typing to edit the filename. Solution: The filename should be unselected when changing a directory.
If that selection causes troubles (as it seems to do) as suggested the filename should be unselected when changing directory since the selection would be cancelled when focusing the entry back with the pointer, it doesn't happen using the keyboard but it a lot of kinda blind tabbing. Anyway I think the confusion is caused mostly by the week focus indication we have for entries, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746202
