Description Allan Day 2013-07-11 10:19:08 UTC
I created a box from the standard Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit live iso. When rebooting the box, the live iso is booted again. The install was successful.

I could unmount the iso from virt-manager. After doing this, I was able to run the installed OS from within Boxes.

Running iosinfo-detect on the iso gave me:

Media is bootable.
Media is an installer for OS 'Ubuntu Raring Ringtails'
Media is live media for OS 'Ubuntu Raring Ringtails'

I think the actual issue here is that after install, the OS tells you to press Enter to reboot, but pressing Enter in Boxes does not sem to do anything here, and using force-shutdown fools Boxes reboot counting to detect end of install.

12:23 < teuf> aday: did you start the install rlight from the boot menu ?
12:23 < teuf> or did you boot into the livecd and then install from there?
12:23 < aday> i think i tried it both ways
12:23 < teuf> ok
12:24 < teuf> I'll try from the boot menu then
12:24 < teuf> oh the livecd has a 'boot from hard disk' entry which you colud use as a workaround if you only need to boot it a few
              times
12:44 < teuf> aday: at the end of the install, ubuntu tells you to remove the CD and press Enter, then it will reboot
12:44 < teuf> do you remember if you could successfully press Enter, or if you had to force shutdown the VM ?
12:45 < aday> teuf, on one occasion it got as far as "press enter to eject the cd" (or whatever), but enter didn't do anything, so i
              had to force shutdown
12:46 < aday> on the other occasion, it didn't get that far - the screen went blank so i had to force shutdown then too
12:46 < teuf> aday: ok I suspect this is the cause of this bug
12:46 < teuf> boxes is probably watching for 'reboot' signals to detect the end of the install
12:47 < teuf> and not looking for 'force-shutdown' signals
12:47 < teuf> in my install, enter didn't work the first time around, so I forced shutdown, and it restarted the installer
12:47 < teuf> then I told him I wanted to try the live system (as opposed to install)
12:47 < teuf> and rebooted from there
12:47 < teuf> 'enter' worked this time
12:48 < teuf> and boxes correctly stopped the installation process this time and booted me into the installed OS
