GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 701018
Tool box and dockable dialogs don't resize in single window mode
Last modified: 2013-07-29 10:28:20 UTC
I had gimp set up in sgl window mode, with the tools etc dock on the LHS and the layer/paths etc dock next and then the main image area on the right. When I widened the layers/path dock area it automatically stretched the tools one also. When I tried to shrink it, the tools dock area would not shrink. I deleted sessionrc to start again. I placed the two floating docks on the LHS and then switched into sgl window mode. However now I cant change the size of the dock areas at all. I dont experience this bug if I just leave the floating docks where they are, but then I get one dock on the LHS and one on the RHS. The bug seems to vary depending on exactly where the floating docks are positioned. Gimp 2.8.4, windows 7 64-bit
Is this the same as bug 692906?
No I dont think so. Though may be related. Also, in that bug, it states restarting fixes it - this is not the case for my bug.
I tried to reproduce it, but failed. Can you provide a screenshot or a video showing the effect, please? Your answer within 6 weeks is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I think i reproduced the bug; I moved all of my Dock-able tabs to LHS and changed the mode to single:window mode. [Bug seems to be there sometime; at other times i am not able to resize just one of the tabs; at sometimes resizing works fine.] http://oi44.tinypic.com/4zvotl.jpg Screenshot : None of the Current LHS tabs are resizable.
You can't change any of the dock columns below a certain width (iirc that's called their requested minimum width). This, however, doesn't seem to be respected when you resize the columns when they are docked to the right hand side of the canvas and you resize the leftmost one. The same happens if you have multiple columns in multi window mode, it is quite easy to squash the rightmost one just like in bug 692906. To me, this makes it look like both bugs are symptoms of the same problem.
Created attachment 250326 [details] Gimp in its un-resizable toolbox state. This is a screenshot of Gimp in a state where the toolbox can not be resized.
I can reproduce this bug on my system. Here are my system specs: OS: Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce 8800 GT/PCIe/SSE2 XOrg Graphics Driver: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build3 Gimp Installed: 2.8.6-0precise1~ppa Candidate: 2.8.6-0precise1~ppa Version table: *** 2.8.6-0precise1~ppa 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Here is the output of "lsb_release -a; uname -a": No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release: 12.04 Codename: precise Linux this-computer 3.2.0-49-generic #75-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 18 17:39:32 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux As a temporary fix I just keep the brushes and pallet separated from the tool box which decreases the workspace significantly and makes the program more cumbersome forcing the user to constantly have to zoom in and back out again to see the context of their edits. It would be far better if this problem were addressed in some future release of gimp. Note: If the link in comment 6 doesn't work, then try this: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9963/sxv2.png
Correction: Where I stated "Pallet" I meant to refer to the "Patterns" dock.
Resolving as duplicate of the newer bug that has been fixed, the fix will be in 2.8.8. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 703692 ***
