Description Daiki Ueno 2013-04-03 10:59:03 UTC
To test:

1. run caribou-preferences and check "Enable scanning"
2. Enable screen keyboard on gnome-shell
3. type space key a few times

Actually, this patch is far from usable state yet, as the OSK does not recognize space key from the second time on. I guess this is related to focus tracking in gnome-shell and libcaribou. libcaribou grabs space key when OSK is created, but after it sends a key event with XTestFakeKeyEvent, it seems to lose the key focus.

I'd appreciate for any help.

keyboard: port switch scanning feature from caribou antler

caribou's antler (the OSK UI written in python) has an a11y feature
called switch scanning, which allows users to input text only with a
single key:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switch_Access_Scanning

This patch tries to port the feature to gnome-shell.

Rui, do you want to look at this ?

What does "Enable scanning" do?
Comment 4 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:47:21 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
