using the 'cage transform' tool on an image ALWAY causes Gimp to crash

steps to reproduce:

select an area of an image using 'free select'(not a square select, this was a triangular select)
paste as new image
select the transparent pixels
select - invert selection to make the image part selected
select 'deform the cage to deform the image'
as soon as that option is selected, Gimp crashes
