GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 690366
improve add printer search box hint text
Last modified: 2016-01-27 14:04:33 UTC
The search box in the add printer dialog includes the hint text "Enter address of a printer or a text to filter results". The English could be better here, and the message could be clearer. Suggestion: change the text to "Enter a network address or search for a printer"
But the text doesn't quite reflect what the search box does. You can enter an address there in which case the Printers panel will look whether there are printers available on the address and add them into the list shown to the user. The second part says that you can filter list of found printers by entered text so it won't "search" for a printer, it will just filter results.
What about this text: "Enter a network address or filter expression" ? Or maybe something shorter "Enter an address or filter expression".
Most people understand "filter" as "search". "Filter" is an uncommon term.
Yeah, but I think that users will think about the "search" as about "search for printer on network" not "search for the printer in the list".
