GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 689680
Ability to change Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown shortcuts
Last modified: 2015-02-03 16:58:45 UTC
We should be able to change shortcuts for Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown. For the moment, it seems their use for "start of paragraph" and "end of paragraph" is somewhat hard-coded in Gedit : why can't we change these ? Moreover, we can already use the "start" (the NW arrow) and "end" keys to do that (like in all software I know), so Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown is redundant and may even be considered useless. I want to be able to use Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown to "previous document" and "next document", like everywhere else - aren't unified shortcuts part of the GNOME HIG ? ... yes, this bug report is merely a duplicate of the following ones : #163494 #337298 #339742 #345888 #582133 #630596 In 2005, Paolo Maggi wrote : > You have to use Alt+Ctrl+PageUP/PageDOWN. > > This is the default gtk+ shortcut when a notebook contains a text view. I think that a normal human does not take this kind of stuff in consideration. I think a normal human would not think "oh, this is a notebook with a text view I should add Alt to the shortcut I'm using everywhere else"... Moreover, I can type "Ctrl-PgUp" with only one hand (the right hand) while keeping my left hand on my mouse, but I need two hands to type "Ctrl-Alt-PgDown", so for me (and maybe many other left-handed people) it is not a matter of "pressing another key" but it is a completely different movement for both my hands, compared to what I'm used to.
