Description Laurent Bigonville 2012-11-13 15:38:19 UTC
Hi,

From the Debian BTS: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=692198

=====8<====

Dear Maintainer,

empathy doesn't connect to any account if Network-Manager isn't used.
The network interfaces are managed by /etc/network/interfaces on my system.
Regarding to empathy documentation, there are some gconf options to configure
the behaviour of empathy without network-manager. However there is no
apps/empathy in my gconf store, so the relevant key
apps/empathy/[use_nm|use_conn] is not available.

The GUI doesn't report any error. It endlessly tries to connect.

In the Debuglog, the following informations can be found:

--8<--
connectivity_monitor_nm_state_change_cb: New NetworkManager network state 20 (connected: false)
--8<--

empathy: 3.4.2.3

Is your mission-control built with NetworkManager support? If it does, I think your accounts won't connect if you are not online in NM.

I updated https://live.gnome.org/Empathy/FAQ#How_to_connect_when_not_using_NetworkManager.3F

Hum actually MC seems to read Empathy's old gsettings key. Does this help?
  gsettings set org.gnome.Empathy use-conn false
