Description Giles Weaver 2012-11-07 22:40:28 UTC
Since Gnome 3.4, the developers have been removing the menu bar and window close button from core applications and replacing them with a super/gear/cog menu and global menu button.

This applies to Epiphany, Nautilus, Baobab, Contacts & others. I regard this as a usability disaster - I now have to click, move the mouse and click again just to close a window! I also think this is an accessibility issue - I'm much more likely to develop RSI with the extra mouse-mileage that the new interface causes.

It would be much appreciated if gnome-tweak-tool offered an option to restore the old style menu bars.

Not technically possible to change this behaviour from within gnome-tweak-tool

(I have had periods of bad RSI several times in past years, g3 is actually great for me compared to many others, I suggest embracing the gnome keyboard shortcuts)

Thanks for the quick response - I was afraid that would be the answer!

I've had my share of RSI too. I've found the Gnome-Shell interface very ergonomic and already use the keyboard shortcuts quite a lot, but this seemed like a big backwards step to me.

Is the new behaviour hard-coded into the applications, or is there somewhere else (like the theme) where the behaviour can be altered?
