Description Tolmino Muccitelli 2012-10-04 09:47:36 UTC
that thing appens me sometime when i crop image with gimp and export it in jpeg.... when i re-import it, plugin crashes.
But now i don't have an example image cropped by me.

i'm sending you an image shooted with a canon camera that crashes too gimp on mac and on windows.

after the crash i can use gimp without restarting it: plugin can also import other jpeg images.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read https://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a description of how to reproduce this bug.

You'll also need to add the camera image and a stack trace; please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information about how to do so.
To attach an image click on the 'Add an attachment' link below.
Your answer within the next 6 weeks is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

For reproduce that bug i only need to load one of the attached images.

now i'm attaching original images (never touched by a program, them are only copied from memory card to computer and gave to you!!) that causes dead of plugin jpeg load image !!

p.s.: i give you a link because every image is more than 1000K !!

keep them from http://www.tolmino.it/gimp.tar.gz

i cannot get trace on mac and on winXP because on http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces there are only linux tracers (gdb ... )
Comment 5 Max Mustermann 2012-10-06 09:59:30 UTC
I'm sorry, I couldn't reproduce this for sure on Win7 and Mac, neither with the pictures from the camera nor with cropped ones. One time GIMP crashed on Mac, when I dragged DSC_1309.jpg from Finder into the GIMP window, but it wasn't reproducable. Are you sure, you sent the right images? You reported an error with images from a Canon camera, but the EXIF data says you used a Nikon D3000.

To get it working you could try to reduce the image size or resolution in another program to get a smaller file size and then try again.

The Windows version of GIMP will not be able to provide a stacktrace as it doesn't contain debug information. Perhaps you will find out more on Mac, see [1]. But the first and most easy thing you could do is providing the full error message when GIMP crashes. We could look then if that problem was already reported and the other report holds a solution for you. Is it perhaps the same as bug #684671?

Setting the OS field to 'All', because it was reported to also occur on Mac.

i have that messages:

Plug-In bloccato: "file-jpeg.exe"
(C:\Programmi\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-jpeg.exe)

... thanks... (now i'm on win xp)

I'm sorry, I don't speak Italian so I can't neither understand that message nor will it be easy to find a match. Please give us the English error message.

To achieve this, in GIMP on Windows go to Edit/Preferences/Interface and choose one of the English items in the language selector list. Then restart GIMP and reproduce the bug. To get the Italian language back, you can go the same steps and choose Italian in the language selector list.

I have changed language into english en_GB and now all jpeg files that i cannot open are opening!!

the cropped too!!

there is a valid reason for this ??
Comment 9 Max Mustermann 2012-10-07 08:22:04 UTC
Very interesting... I couldn't reproduce again, but no reason to worry.

I wasn't aware of more non-English error messages in Bugzilla (as we usually use English and ask the reporters to do so) but interestingly somebody else from Italy had the same problem. It is fixed in a newer build of GIMP 2.8.2, that you find at http://nightly.darkrefraction.com/gimp/. Please use the stable build (2.8) series and read the notes there. Then your problems with crashing JPEG images in Italian language should be solved.

I close your bug as duplicate of the other bug now, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.
