Windows 7, 64 bit; GIMP 2.8.2

The issue is actually known. However, I thought I'd file a bug so it can be solved.

Previous discussions:
http://registry.gimp.org/node/26294
(in German) http://www.gimpforum.de/archive/index.php/t-20365.html

It seems as if the problem applies to WindowsXP 32 bit only. Apparently, GIMP 2.6.11 worked as well as a build from http://www.partha.com/.

I hope this is sufficient to isolate and fix the problem in official builds.

Cheers, Reinhard.

No one has found the cause for this yet (read the gimpforum thread), and many people couldn't reproduce the problem.
Comment 5 Michael Schumacher 2012-09-15 09:43:52 UTC
And what makes you think that both of these threads are related? I can't see any connection, do you have more information about the problem?
Comment 6 czerwinski1977 2012-09-15 09:53:13 UTC
I filed a bug to give the problem a chance to be solved. In fact I was surprised that I was not able to find a bug report on an issue of that impact.

As far as I can tell, several people have problems opening JPGs, some relate it to mobile phone cameras (which is also the case in my example), some to the pathname of the file (I tested but found it insignificant) - I don't know the actual reason for the problem, and I don't have any other infomation on that.

I am no GIMP developer, sorry for potential missjudgment concerning the connection to other error reportings. I am merely offing assistance in isolating the problem: let me know what kind of logs, system information or whatsoever I can provide the developers with.

I think this is a duplicate of Bug 682454, and it should be
solved now in git, branches gimp-2-8 and master.

If you want to confirm, you could try the Windows nightly
build announced here:

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list/2012-August/msg00072.html
Comment 8 czerwinski1977 2012-09-17 06:58:09 UTC
I used file-jpeg.exe from the nightly 2.8 build, and the file could be opened.

Thank you!
