GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 683493
possibility to fill markers and not only lines
Last modified: 2012-09-18 08:27:42 UTC
Currently in gnumeric's charting engine, there is the possibility to fill an XY serie line to, e.g., another XY serie. It would be helpful in some situations to be able to fill the markers of an XY serie to another XY serie, i.e. to draw horizontal or vertical lines from the XY markers to another XY serie.

Yes, I mean like in your attached file. However, in your simple example, there is no abscissas given. Is it possible to set the abscissas using the MinMax plot? (it seems no)
To set the absissas, we need a new plot type, as for the high-low plots. The other way would be to add an option to drop lines to end at the previous series if any, using some interpolation if the absissas are not the same for the two series.
After more thoughts, I prefer the first solution which is easy to implement (or should be).
New plot type added (just a quick implementation though).
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
Thank you very much for this fix. While it solves my problem, I still have one remark. The possibility to drop lines from markers to axes exist in XY plots, by adding a "projection lines". I think it would be useful and more consistent to move this functionality in the "markers" tab and to extend it to match the functionality of the "line" tab.
This is just not possible with the current framework. Markers are a style property, and the drop lines own a style, so we would need a style inside another style. And you can have drop lines (or other series related lines) with no markers.
