Description Gabe Torson 2012-08-27 04:47:33 UTC
I hit ctrl and I clicked to get the source of the image to clone, but it would not use the source. I tried to do it with another layer, but same problem. My OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on Acer Aspire 5724 laptop. Gimp version is 2.8.0
Comment 1 André Klapper 2012-08-27 10:44:49 UTC
What are the exact steps (click by click) to reproduce the problem?

Also it is welcome to try version 2.8.2 and report back (this might require to ask your distribution to provide an updated version).
Comment 2 Michael Natterer 2012-09-02 23:23:40 UTC
Please do as André asked and step-by-step describe what you are doing.
Comment 3 Ari Pollak 2012-09-14 00:56:00 UTC
I received a report at http://bugs.debian.org/686864 that was related to GNOME's "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" setting being on. Since there's no other explanation on this bug, I think it would be prudent to assume it's due to that.

When that GNOME option is enabled and you try to Ctrl+click with the Clone or other tools, the following is printed to the console:

gimp_display_shell_keyboard_grab: gdk_keyboard_grab failed with status 1
Comment 4 Martin Dosch 2012-09-14 08:38:48 UTC
I have to mention that this bug still occured with debian unstables GIMP 2.8.2.
I tried 2.8.2 before finding the relation to the function that Ari already named.
Comment 5 Michael Natterer 2012-10-05 00:10:14 UTC
I really don't know what to do here, somebody else holds a pointer
grab, and that somebody is the window manager, the debian bug
said gnome3, so i'm moving this bug to mutter.
Comment 6 Michael Natterer 2012-10-05 06:16:14 UTC
I meant to write "keyboard grab".
Comment 7 Rui Matos 2012-10-05 23:50:54 UTC
Re-assigning to the correct module.

mouse: Also grab button presses so as to replay them on locate pointer

Applications might want to establish keyboard grabs on button presses
so we should also ungrab the keyboard when a button press occurs after
the locate pointer key is pressed.
