Description Kees de Jong 2012-08-22 10:13:29 UTC
The side-bar doesn't seem to re-size anymore. For this reason the window as a whole can't re-size itself to the size of half my screen resolution (1920x1080). Therefore the window snap-in effect doesn't work for the 'maximize to half the screen'. Only for the the full screen. To clarify a bit more, when you grab the window and drag it to the left side, it doesn't show a blue marker and it doesn't snap to half the screen.

When the side-bar is disabled trough View --> Layout --> (disable) Show Side Bar then the snap-in works again. Please fix for the 3.4.x branch.

I'm using Debian Wheezy (testing) with GNOME 3.4.

Thanks for a bug report. I do not see how this can happen, maybe if the Side bar is too large, and the snap on half screen width requires the content part (where message list and message preview is) being smaller, which doesn't allow the top "Show:" line? I'm only guessing here, but the "Show" line cannot wrap, and it dictates minimal window width. Can it be because of this? What will happen if you try the same in other view, like in Contacts?

I forgot to mention that I have the 'large text' option enabled in the accessibility menu. I have this enabled because this Gnome system runs on a big
TV. This is the cause, with this option disabled the snap-in works fine. All other applications work fine with the large text (as far as I know). Thanks.

OK, so it seems to me that this is the "Show:" bar, which doesn't wrap. When you try to change window width to the smallest, then you should not be able to get it below half of the screen, which surely prevents the snap-in feature of your window manager work properly.

As a workaround, you can run evolution in express mode (evolution --express), which is useful for small resolutions. It gives a little different look-and-feel too.

Current (3.16.3) minimum width of the content are seems to be around 680 pixels. Add to it the sidebar, and the snap-in works only if the sum of these two widths doesn't exceed half of the current screen resolution (desktop/workspace width). It's reasonable.

There used to wrap the Search bar, but that looked odd, thus its wrappeing was disabled again.
