GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 677311
Hibernation should be available from the user panel
Last modified: 2012-11-02 14:57:48 UTC
Hello all, I am bothered by a regression in Gnome 3.4.x vs. previous versions. Before, users had the choice to enter shutdown, suspend or hibernate from a simple and easy-to-access menu. Now, the only choices that are quickly available are "suspend" and "power off". Yet, hibernation is a most useful feature, because for moderate interruptions (e.g. public transportation, take off and landing, night), it allows one to preserve its work environment while not using the battery. My only way to launch hibernation is to set it as the "lid close" action for battery mode, and remove the power cable before closing the lid, which draws on the battery and is just... yuck... ugly in terms of user experience. So PLEASE, restore hibernation as an accessible choice that, at least, can be configured easily in the user menus.
