GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 675914
Privacy: Search should not use network services (Wikipedia, Google) by default
Last modified: 2012-05-12 08:40:07 UTC
GNOME3 features a nice search dialogue in the upper right corner of the screen. One can easily search applications to run, so I'm happy with it. I have, however, a privacy concern, because the search function uses by default e.g. Wikipedia or Google to search whatever I entered. This would be OK, if there would be a dialogue to confirm, such as "couldn't find locally what you are looking for, may I try Wikipedia/Google/whatever?" Maybe there are other ideas, how to solve it, but in any case the default should be not to use network services unexpectedly.
Actually, the Web search is going to be removed, which kind of fixes the problem. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 670168 ***
