From the documentation:

length :   the length of data in bytes (or -1 if data is nul-terminated)

Looks fine, except that length has an unsigned type ...

(I'm not sure there's anything we can actually do about that, but I've stumbled upon the issue with bug 671556 and thought it was worth reporting anyway)
