There should be a way to keep the "Activities" screen up while loading apps. E.g., press the 'super' key, and hold down shift will clicking apps to run them without leaving the Activities screen. Otherwise, loading 4-5 apps is tedious as we have to hit Super, click the app, hit Super again, click, etc.

You can drag an app icon to one workspace, it will start but you'll stay in the overview. See duplicate report for more information.
