GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 669304
Alt-Drag (LMB) clashes with Applications using Alt as modifier and cannot be remapped
Last modified: 2012-02-03 13:29:06 UTC
When using certain Applications (for example Gimp or Inkscape) the Alt key works as a Modifier to change the Mouse behaviour (see examples below), but Alt-Drag is used by Gnome3 to move Windows around and AFAICT cannot be easily remapped to something like Super/Hyper-LMB (the 'Windows' keys for example). Gimp: - Selection Tool: Alt-Drag (move Selection) - Path Tool: Alt-Drag (move Path) Inkscape: - Selection Tool: Alt-Click (Select Under), Alt-Drag (Move Selected) - Freehand Tool: Alt (Interpolate/Sketch Mode) - Dropper: Alt-Click (Pick Inverse Color) note that those are just a few Examples and I'm pretty sure many other Applications use Alt in combination with LMB Click or Drag.

It can be remapped using the 'mouse-button-modifier' key in org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences. There is currently a problem with the Super key specifically (related to its use as "overview trigger"), so I'll dupe on the corresponding bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 662476 ***
