GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 669283
help text doesn't mention display option
Last modified: 2012-12-03 07:23:56 UTC
I was happy to discover gnome-control-center display network today but surprised that the gnome-control-center help text doesn't make mention of the option.
What display option?
Apologies, I'm specifically referring to the fact that I can launch GCM with a specific module displayed. i.e. joshual@shamshir:~ $ gnome-control-center network I discovered this by asking a GCM contributor as it's not listed in the help text, seems like a useful piece of functionality worth documenting to me.
Now what is the "help text" exactly? Some tooltip? Some user documentation? Providing steps to reproduce what you report would be really welcome...
By help text I mean the usage output of gnome-control-center --help. I wanted to try and figure out how to directly launch the Network configuration in Gnome 3. I seemed to recall that gnome-control-center supported being launched with a specific control center module loaded but didn't know what the options to the g-c-c binary were to do that so thought I'd look at the output of gnome-control-center --help (help text is obviously not the right name for this, usage text?). There wasn't anything in there about this functionality so I tracked down my friendly neighbourhood g-c-c contributor and asked him. I knew I'd forget again before I next needed the information and thought it might be useful for others so filed this, clearly lame, bug report.
gnome-control-center 3.6 added a man page that explains that you can open panels directly.
