GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 665649
Banshee not scrobbling podcasts to last.fm
Last modified: 2020-03-17 09:19:57 UTC
Originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/900203 When music plays on Banshee it scrobbles normally to Last.fm. Podcasts will not scrobble to last.fm from Banshee. Downloaded podcasts also return ownership errors when they attempt to sync with music players ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: banshee 2.2.1-1ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-14.23-generic 3.0.9 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-14-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Dec 5 09:28:26 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111012) SourcePackage: banshee UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
We only scrobble tracks that are flagged with the "Music" attribute, see bug #453416. I don't think scrobbling podcasts is a good idea : Last.fm describes itself as being a "music service". The listening pattern is for podcasts is different than for music: you're not likely to listen to the same podcast episode twice, so all their per-track stats would be mostly pointless for podcasts. So I'm leaning towards "WONTFIX", but I'm leaving this open just in case I can be convinced otherwise.
Regarding that, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/900203/comments/5
> I have been able to in the past and I know other users can scrobble > the shows I listen to, Last.fm does have a section dedicated to > podcasts (see: http://www.last.fm/tag/podcast?ac=podcast). But that "section dedicated to podcasts" is just a user-generated tag like any other (e.g. http://www.last.fm/tag/alternative). It's not something that last.fm is encouraging people to do. People also scrobble videos to the "TV Shows" tag, but that's definitely not how the service is intended to be used. Do we know what the official last.fm client does with podcasts (when scrobbling from iTunes, for example)?
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
